Become a Host Family with LXI

Welcome international students into your home — on your terms.

Language Xchange Ireland (LXI) has been bringing European students to Ireland for over 16 years, and we’re now looking for new host families. We currently work with more than 450 registered families — and we’d love to add you to the team.

Our students come from Austria, Germany, France, and Italy, aged 17–19 and already have excellent English. They’re mature, respectful, and here for one thing: to experience real Irish life while completing short work placements.

Groups arrive throughout the year — January to December — for 2–4 week stays. And don’t worry, you’re not doing this alone: our LXI Area Managers and teachers are on hand with full support whenever you need it.

What Hosting Involves

Hosting is simple and flexible:

• Provide breakfast, a packed lunch, and include the student in your family evening meal

• Offer a clean, safe, comfortable home

• Have a spare room for each student

• Help with local transport to work and two weekly social events (all local)

Under Ireland’s Rent-a-Room Scheme, income from hosting is tax-free up to €14,000 per year, making hosting both rewarding and financially worthwhile.

Host Family Rates

January–June & September–December: €225 per student per week
July & August: €250 per student per week

Note: Rates are per student. We do not reduce the rate if you host two students.
