Language Xchange Ireland offers individuals and small groups of students an opportunity to improve their ‘Business English’ through our multi-tiered English Learning structure - Internship Program.

This program is ideal for students looking for an Internship, work experience, work placement or Erasmus mobility in Ireland.

We match our clients studies & skills with a specific work placement, in a relevant Irish company, in line with Erasmus / PON / Movetia objectives.




Internship programs are typically 4-21 weeks duration and provide student groups with an opportunity to gain international business experience, improve English language skills and enhance life skills through the experience of participating in a Voluntary Work Placement, living with an Irish family and attending social and cultural events and activities. This program is most suited to teenagers aged 17 years upwards on arrival to Ireland.


Voluntary Work Placements / Internships can be for a duration of up to 6 weeks on request. Internships are generally VEC Students with a Trade. Ask us by clicking the 'Enquire here' button, if we can source you a Internship with full board accommodation, in your sector.



Voluntary Work Placement & Internship programs consist of five core elements
Our Internship Programs are based on the same multi-tiered structure as all Language Xchange Ireland programs, consisting of five core elements:

- Free 45 hrs E-Learning Package prior to arriving in Ireland (Optional to individuals)
- Internship / Traineeship
- Irish Host Family
for duration of stay in Ireland
- Access to local social events
- A Cultural Tours

Socially - you have an opportunity to meet our other clients & students from over 10x EU countries, that come to LXI monthly. All our programs have a Wednesday Social Evening that


Irish programme travel and transfers are included. (Flights & insurance are not included)


Your Voluntary Work Placement will be from Monday to Friday each week with fully organised cultural tours every second weekend 9for the first 8 weeks) along with mid week social evenings! There is a very large choice of work environments to choose from. LXI don't just sell English Learning Programs, we deliver a truly Irish experience, which helps you learn English and have fun doing so!

(B2) – Mandatory English level / Level II e-learning targets – 75% of theses companies want their student to bring their own Lap Top to their company – to allow for GDRP compliance. Schools should bring 2 Lap tops /#10 students in these categories.

1. What is a Internship with Language Xchange Ireland?

It is a work experience program, four weeks or more in duration, in an Irish company & host family accommodation, that helps students improve their Business English and gain international work experience. [languageexchange.ie]


2. How long does the program last?

Internship work placements usually last 4–21 weeks. LXI is the largest provider of Placements and Internships in Ireland and 16yrs in operation. [languageexchange.ie]


3. Who can take part in the program?

The program is most suited to students aged 17 and older. Erasmus plus grant holders or students of a school offering Erasmus grant assistance. Some students turn to LXI for assistance with no Erasmus grant. [languageexchange.ie]


4. What kind of work will I do?

5. Do I need to speak English well before I arrive?

No. The program includes a free 45‑hour e‑learning English preparation package to help you get ready. B1 English plus is the starting point, to ensure you extract the most from this program, in Ireland [languageexchange.ie]


6. Will I stay with a host family?

Yes. You will live with an Irish host family for the duration of your stay. They provide single occupancy room accommodation, three meals a day, lifts to and from work daily and the friendly Irish welcome on all of LXIs host Families. [languageexchange.ie]


7. Are airport transfers included?

8. What activities are included outside of work?

21. How does LXI manage the Accommodation Crisis?

All of LXI's accommodations is with screen host families - where students receive a warm Irish home, single room occupancy, three meals a day and lifts to and from work daily. Host family information is released to the intern two weeks in advance of arrival to Ireland. LXI have over 500+ Host Families registered on our system - most of them have been with LXI for > 8 years and up to 16 years.


22. How does LXI manage Interns Social Isolation and Culture Shock?

Warm Host Family accommodation versus hostels & apartments goes a long way towards preventing home sickness. LXI area managers are on call 24/ 7 during a students stay. Individual students are added to a group on arrival, meet with that group before work Monday morning, again for social night on Wednesday evening and again for Saturdays Cultural trip to Dublin city with their group of students. 23. How does LXI avoid interns lack of Local Community Engagement?

Your internship will be in a small Irish business within Ireland and within an Irish business community. The Irish welcome is recognized world-wide. Warm Host Family accommodation versus hostels & apartments goes a long way towards preventing social isolation. LXI area managers are on call 24/ 7 during a students stay. Individual students are added to A Group on arrival, meet with that group before work Monday morning work placement, again for social night on Wednesday evening and again for Saturday's Cultural trip to Dublin city with their group of students. Each student has plenty of time to engage with Irish culture each evening too.
